County students address teen issues in 'Life by Design'
High school youth participate in workshop series aimed at peer discussion of graduation, drug prevention
Martins Creek - Cherokee County high school students were challenged to create unique newspaper advertisements and a billboard about a school or social issue pertinent to their peers that concerned them.
Last spring, students from across the county converged on Mountain Youth School for four distinctly unique workshops called “Life by Design,” in which youth developed positive messages, received résumé and job interview tips, practiced etiquette skills, explored drug-free education, designed their own school T-shirt, and planned their graduation ceremony and formal rehearsal dinner.
Students were concerned about topics such as dropout prevention, tobacco and drug addiction, teen pregnancy, suicide, and more.
